| Q) |
Do I need a dedicated server to run IntraNomic? |
| A) |
You do not require a dedicated server to run IntraNomic, but StyleTech would advise that you invest in a dedicated server.
IntraNomic will be the main communication mechanism within your organization and if another application on the same server needs the server restarting, it will affect everyone within your organization as IntraNomic will become unavailable whilst the server is being restarted.
|
| Q) |
Can IntraNomic use a SQL Server installed on another server? |
| A) |
IntraNomic can use an instance of SQL Server either on the IntraNomic server or on another server.
During the IntraNomic installation you are asked to provide the connection details for a SQL Server. Please see the "IntraNomic - Installation Guide" within the "Download" section of this web site for more information.
|
| Q) |
The IntraNomic Setup fails on "Step 11 – Create SQL Server Login"? |
| A) |
To resolve this issue you will need to create a local user (on the server that is running the IntraNomic Setup) by following these steps:
| 1. |
Select "Control Panel, Administrative Tools and Computer Management" |
| 2. |
Expand the "Local Users and Groups" node |
| 3. |
Right click on the "Users" node and select "New User" |
| 4. |
Enter the following:
User Name = IntraNomic
Full Name = IntraNomic
Description = Local user for IntraNomic
Password = password
NOTE: The IntraNomic Setup will change the password
User Must Change Password At Next Logon: OFF
User Cannot Change Password: OFF
Password Never Expires: OFF
Account is Disabled: OFF
|
| 5. |
Click on the "Create" button to create the "IntraNomic" user |
| 6. |
Close "Computer Management" and re-run the IntraNomic Setup |
|
| Q) |
I am using SQL Server on a remote server and the first time I access IntraNomic I receive a "New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator" or "Audit Insert" error? |
| A) |
If you have installed IntraNomic to use SQL Server on a remote Windows 2003 SP1+ server, the following additional configuration is required to allow "Distributed Transactions" on that remote Windows 2003 SP1+ server:
| On the remote Windows 2003 SP1+ server: |
| 1. |
Select "Control Panel, Administrative Tools and Component Services" |
| 2. |
Expand the "Component Services and Computers nodes" |
| 3. |
Right click on the "My Computer" node and select "Properties" |
| 4. |
From the "MSDTC" tab select the "Security Configuration" button |
| 5. |
Select the "No Authentication Required" option |
| 6. |
The "MS DTC" service will then restart to enable the change |
You should now be able to use IntraNomic.
|
| Q) |
What browsers and browser versions does IntraNomic support? |
| A) |
IntraNomic supports the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and above.
We recommend that all IntraNomic clients should be using version 6.0 (or higher) of Internet Explorer. Version 6 enables all IntraNomic functionality including the full use of the Portal module.
|
| Q) |
Does IntraNomic work with a client side Firewall (e.g. the Windows XP SP2 Firewall)? |
| A) |
IntraNomic can operate through a client side Firewall, but some configuration on the client might be required (or via Group Policies within Active Directory).
To enable IntraNomic to work with a client side Firewall the following settings need to be allowed:
|
| 1. |
You need to allow communication over Port 6000 (incoming and outgoing). IntraNomic uses the Port defined within the IntraNomic Configuration module (default to 6000) for all communication |
|
| 2. |
You must allow ICMP, as IntraNomic uses PING to ensure the recipient is available |
When a Firewall is enabled but NOT configured on a client you will be unable to receive any Portal call-backs or send any IM message (you will be asked if the IM message should be stored).
The following steps describe the process to allow IntraNomic to communicate through the Windows XP SP2 firewall (enabled by default).
From the "View Network Connections":
|
| 1. |
Right click on the LAN connection with the Firewall |
|
| 2. |
Select the "Advanced" tab |
|
| 3. |
Click on the "Settings" button (this is only enabled, when the Firewall is switched on) |
|
| 4. |
From the "Services" tab, click on the "Add" button |
|
| 5. |
Enter the following details and then click "OK" to save:
|
| Description: |
IntraNomic |
|
| Name or IP: |
- |
|
| External Port: |
6000 (the IM port from the IntraNomic Configuration module) |
|
| TCP or UDP: |
TCP |
|
| Internal Port: |
6000 (the IM port from the IntraNomic Configuration module) |
|
|
| 6. |
The "IntraNomic" service should be selected (via a checkbox) |
|
| 7. |
If your machine is also acting as the IntraNomic server you should also ensure that the "Web Server (HTTP)" service is selected. If this service is not selected, people will be unable to connect to use the version of IntraNomic on your machine |
|
| 8. |
From the "ICMP" tab, ensure that the "Allow incoming echo requests" is selected
The IntraNomic service allows IM messages to be received and the IMCP setting allows Portal call-backs
|
|
| Q) |
Can I install IntraNomic onto another machine for testing / development purposes? |
| A) |
Once you purchase IntraNomic you can install IntraNomic onto a second machine for testing and development purposes only.
You cannot use the same SQL Server that contains the IntraNomic production database for the IntraNomic test database (as the test database will overwrite the production database). We recommend that you install a version of MSDE onto the second machine for the IntraNomic test database.
The second machine can be used by your developers to create Portal Windows without the risk of affecting the main IntraNomic server (production server).
The second machine can also be used to test upgraded functionality before that upgrade is applied to the production server.
The second machine can use the same IntraNomic license keys as the production server and you can copy the production database to the test database.
|
| Q) |
What is the hardware specification for IntraNomic? |
| A) |
The following guidelines have been created to help determine the hardware specification for your IntraNomic installation:
| 1. |
Your server must be able to run the Windows 2000 Server or the Windows 2003 Server Operating System, with SQL Server (if SQL Server is installed onto the same machine) |
|
| 2. |
The number of concurrent users working within IntraNomic can act as a guide for the amount of physical memory that is required. StyleTech recommend that each concurrent user should be allocated a maximum of 500kb of physical memory, but the more physical memory the Windows Operating System has, the better the performance |
|
| 3. |
The power of today's servers means that IntraNomic will operate without any issues for most sizes of business |
|
| 4. |
As IntraNomic was developed with scalability as a technical goal from day one, IntraNomic can operate successfully on a wide range of server specifications |
|
| Q) |
Can I use MSDE instead of SQL Server? |
| A) |
IntraNomic can use MSDE instead of SQL Server.
Due to the limitation of MSDE, StyleTech advise that you should only use MSDE if you have 5 or less people accessing IntraNomic (e.g. during the 30 day free trial or when testing or developing for IntraNomic).
If you have installed a Test version of IntraNomic for use by your development team (5 or less people), that Test version could use MSDE.
|
| Q) |
Does IntraNomic require any other software? |
| A) |
IntraNomic requires the following software to be installed onto the IntraNomic server:
| 1. |
ADO 2.7 |
| 2. |
XML 4.0 SP2 |
| 3. |
Microsoft Index Server |
This software can be downloaded from the Download section of this web site (except Microsoft Index Server, which is provided free with the Operating System).
You can also extend the searching capabilities within IntraNomic by downloading the optional Microsoft Index Server PDF Add-on. Once the Microsoft Index Server PDF Add-on is installed, IntraNomic will look within PDF files during a search. The optional Microsoft Index Server PDF Add-on can be downloaded from the Download section of this web site.
